Jan. 30th - Focus

When I was a kid, we would order little "trinkets" and "do dads" off of the back of cereal boxes. It always took way too much time. Six to eight weeks was an eternity! Upon the much anticipated arrival day, they never looked as cool as they did on the back of the Cheerios box. One long awaited item taught me a valuable lesson though so I guess it was all worth it. I received a little plastic magnifying glass. Not only was it very cool to see things up really close but I learned fairly quickly that under the right circumstances and with just the right angle and distance, I could set things on fire!
That my friend is the power of focus. A little kid can take a plastic toy and transform a 72 degree sun ray into something so hot it would set his homework on fire!
Now let's take that power principle and transform it into something a little more productive.
Focusing your life onto God's eternal purposes is a powerful life changing event. It releases supernatural power in your behalf.
The power of focus works on all fronts. It works at home, at school, at work and even at play. I can't tell you how many times while fishing, I missed a fish because I lost focus.
Psalm 17:8 reveals an important area of focus for all of us. David said, "Keep me as the apple of your eye". Two truths come to the forefront here.
1. God is focused on us! One line in the the old hymn "His Eye is on the Sparrow" says, "His eye is on the sparrow and I know He watches me."
2. "Apple" means "little man". David wanted to be so close to God that he saw the "little man", that is his very own reflection, in God's eyes. Try this out on someone today. See how close you have to get before you see yourself in their eyes. You'll have to get really close and personal so make sure it's a friend!
So with that in mind, what's the focus of your life today? Is life a bit fuzzy and out of focus? It may be time to fine tune your focus in life. If not, everything will continue to come out blurry.

Finally, aren't you glad you didn't have to order this truth off the back of the cheerios box and wait six to eight weeks for delivery? I delivered it right to your hearts door.
So get busy and get focused.

Meet you hear in the morning,
Sam

Pastor Sam,

Enjoyed the blog. Wanted to comment on this subject. Setting my priorities and focusing on God being first in every aspect of my life has been my desire since May of last year. In beginning my personal journey through the Bible I have discovered a great secret that has been there all the time. Just as you stated, focusing on God's purpose for me has caused a powerful transformation in my life and I now have a greater understanding of God and his will for us as his children. Basing every desision that I make on Biblical standards has released this supernatural power that you have spoken of in this blog. "He was there all the time", another line to another wonderful hymm.

Wow! I never thought of that before.

"I learned fairly quickly that under the right circumstances and with just the right angle and distance, I could set things on fire!"

I really want to have my view of God right, so that God and I can be really really close - that my heart gets all fired up!
