Flip Wilson had the greatest of one line excuses. Knowing who Flip Wilson is requires you to be at least 50 years old. Flip was a cross dressing comic. That was funny back then! No matter what the problem, he would always say, "The devil made me do it". That line permeated our culture for a season and we all used the devil as our excuse for the inconsistencies and weaknesses in our lives.
Let's go back to the garden. The serpent tempts Eve and she falls for his lie and partakes. Sin enters into the human race. Adam and Eve hide from God. God, of course, finds them.
Adams excuse was, "The woman you gave to be with me, she gave to me of the tree and I ate."
Eves excuse was, "The serpent deceived me and I ate".
The only one without an excuse was the serpent. Of course we know why. He didn't have a leg to stand on!
Ever since Adam and Eve, God's people have had some great excuses. One of the greatest excuse makers of all time was Moses. That's right, Moses. The great deliverer. Read Exodus 3 & 4 and you will see some whoppers!
Anyway, we come from a great line of excuse makers. There always seems to be some "valid" reason we don't fulfill all that God has for us. This year, I want to be a man of no excuses. I want to own up to the responsibilities and purposes that He has for me. We need to have the heart of Mary who said, "Be it unto me according to thy word".
What's your excuse?
Meet you here in the morning,
Sam
