I'm really glad you have chosen to visit my early morning prayer blog. I have developed this blogspot to provide you with some of my insights and thoughts during this months early morning prayer hour. You see, beginning Monday morning, January 1st of 2007, I'll be up drinking my coffee and more importantly praying. I have always believed that prayer is a vital part of our spiritual journey and also a vital ingredient in being productive for God and His kingdom. The disciples saw this benefit working in the life of Jesus and wisely asked Him, "Lord, teach us to pray". I hope that is your heart as well. Though I have been praying fairly regulary for well over 25 years, I still feel I am in the learning mode. Allow me to share some of the many things I have learned over the years about maintaining a healthy personal prayer life.
1. Prayer is a lifestyle not just a lifeboat. Though prayer does have a saving grace intertwined within it's fabric, it is not simply something you should do when you are in trouble and need help. Healthy praying is developed over time.
2. Discipline is the biggest key to unlocking the blessings of prayer.
3. The "Lord's Prayer" in Matthew 6 is better titled "The Model Prayer". It is an outline of prayer taught by Jesus that covers key elements of a healthy prayer life.
4. As the habit of prayer develops, your spirit becomes more sensitive to God's voice.
5. Habits take about 30 days to develop.
6. "Seven days without prayer makes one weak."
7. "More prayer...more Power"
8. We should become "Prayer Warriors" not "Prayer Worriers".
Let me encourage you to join me this month as I pray. I'll be up praying every morning by 6:00 a.m. If you would like to email me your prayer requests you can do so at psamtnc@sbcglobal.net . I would love the opportunity to pray for you. Also, please let me know you are agreeing with me in prayer and be sure to drop me a email as well.
Here's some suggested reading for the day.
Proverbs chapter one
Matthew chapter 6
God bless,
Pastor Sam
